In December of 2017 my amazing wife shared with the family that Northern Colorado Great Danes had a new litter of blue puppies. Only one was available, his name was Cheese:
Naturally the boys very much wanted us to get him, he was the last one left! A few days later we, sadly, had to inform the children that he was taken. Someone had put down a deposit on him.
Five weeks later:
We named him Magni, and he was a deeply serious animal...
His only company was a cat, so he was sometimes confused as to how he should behave.
He enjoyed going on trips to the farm in Texas, where he would run around and be the big dog, even though he was still just a pup.
Magni's favorite word was "walk." Particularly when we were building our house, he and I would walk around the Walmart lot. He would attempt to chase rabbits that he had no chance of catching.
He also looked better than Tom Cruise in a pair of aviators.
Just under two years ago he became a big brother. As you can see, he was thrilled.
But he did a good job showing the pup the best things in life.
Unfortunately, in the last six months his mobility had become greatly reduced. He had trouble standing, or traversing stairs.
And so, at the end of his journey, here he is on his last walk.
And on his house (bed) in the living room, surrounded by his family.
In the afternoon of April 22, 2026 Magni, surrounded by his family, went to sleep for the final time. He was a little over eight and a half years old.
We are blessed to have been his family for that time, and I know he is in heaven chasing rabbits today.
Maybe he'll even catch one.
